sensitive t-shirts for creative women & men,
durable and eco-friendly, designed and screenprinted
with waterbased inks in Amsterdam

Since 2012, Päälä tees are designed and printed by artists in the Amsterdam-based atelier. It all started from the idea of taking a tee as art-canvas. Still rooted in the art community, Päälä designs are made through playing, discovering and doing. The designs are handprinted onto shirts by artists using silkscreenprint technology. The team’s expert knowledge in silkscreenprinting assures that each shirt retains its timeless print for years.

Päälä and sustainability go hand in hand: the garments are produced from high quality sustainable materials and printed with waterbased inks. Waterbased inks create durable prints with a soft touch. The silkscreenprint-atelier in Amsterdam is the only one in The Netherlands with the GOTS-certificate, which ensures it’s low environmental impact. Päälä tees are resilient, comfortable and soft to the skin; ensuring optimal wearing pleasure.

We hope you enjoy wearing our T-shirts as much as we do designing them.

GOTS-certified printing with water-based inks.

Our silkscreen print atelier is GOTS-certified and we only use water-based inks to make high-quality prints. Water-based inks have low environmental impact and create prints that are highly durable while washing and allow the garment to retain a soft touch.

Fair working conditions

Päälä garments are produced in Lithuania, Turkey, Portugal, Bangladesh and India. It is important to us that the manufacturers we work with provide good working conditions and pay fair wages to their employees. We therefore make sure that all manufacturers we work with are highly valued members of the Fair Wear Foundation.

Designed and printed in Amsterdam

The designs are created and printed in our atelier at the industrial NDSM wharf in Amsterdam. Read more about how we work and the creative process below.

Carefully selected raw materials

Päälä items are made of carefully selected sustainable materials. We value a diverse range of sustainable fibres to produce our garments to limit the impact of textile production on the environment. We are a great fan of Tencel, GOTS-certified organic cotton, linen and bamboo for their softness, durability and sustainable characteristics.

We print t-shirts with unique designs.

Our collections are inspired by the beauty of nature, Scandinavian simplicity and graphic shapes. Inspiration comes from everywhere.

Topics and themes arise by observing the surroundings with an open and curious look. Animals, nature, artforms, Folklore and moments from every day life can be the source of inspiration for a unique print. The prints are created by playing, making, discovering and doing. This ensures timeless and unique items with a creative twist.

From Art to Garment

In our multi-functional atelier (office, creative space, print workshop and showroom) at the NDSM wharf in Amsterdam, new designs are screenprinted by hand onto carefully selected sustainable garments.
