Materials & fibers

Päälä tees are made from sustainably sourced materials that are resilient, comfortable, and soft on the skin. We value a wide range of natural and certified fibers that help reduce the environmental impact of textile production. Our garments are made using linen, bamboo, organic cotton, TENCEL™, Modal, and EcoVero™. These certified fabrics minimize the use of harmful substances and support fair working conditions. Our organic cotton is GOTS-certified, meaning farmers and producers are treated and paid fairly throughout the supply chain.

Linen

Linen is a strong, durable fiber made from the flax plant. This plant is highly sustainable—it requires minimal irrigation, often growing with just rainwater. Flax is naturally resilient, needs fewer pesticides, and can thrive in poor soil. Our linen items are produced in Portugal. The fabric feels soft and is comfortable to wear. Thanks to the strength of the fiber, linen garments maintain their quality for years. Linen is also moisture-absorbent, breathable, and naturally wicks away heat and moisture, making it ideal for warm weather.

Bamboo

Bamboo is a fast-growing, low-maintenance plant that uses natural irrigation, making it a highly sustainable resource. It is turned into fabric through a chemical process. Our bamboo garments are made in Turkey by a GOTS- and OEKO-TEX®-certified manufacturer, ensuring limited environmental impact and responsible wastewater treatment. Bamboo fabric is soft, cooling, antibacterial, and highly moisture-absorbent—making it one of our most loved materials for all-day comfort.

GOTS-Certified Organic Cotton

Cotton is one of the most widely used natural fibers—and for good reason. The cotton in our tees is 100% organic and GOTS-certified, meaning it is grown without pesticides and with mostly rain-fed irrigation. The GOTS certification also ensures that all stages of production, from plant to garment, follow strict environmental and social standards. Dyeing and chemical processes are tightly regulated to protect both people and the planet.

TENCEL™

TENCEL™ is made from the wood pulp of eucalyptus trees grown in sustainably managed forests. The fiber is produced using Lenzing’s patented closed-loop system, which reuses chemicals and reduces waste. The result is a fabric with a low environmental impact. TENCEL™ is exceptionally soft, with a smooth, breathable texture. Its long, strong fibers give the fabric durability, while its natural shine and fluid drape make it elegant and comfortable.

Modal

Modal, Like TENCEL™, is made from wood-based cellulose fibers and processed through a chemical method. Päälä only uses Modal produced by Lenzing, using their environmentally friendly closed-loop system. Bamboo, TENCEL™, and Modal are sometimes referred to as “artificial silk” due to their graceful drape and subtle sheen. Modal is soft to the touch, moisture-absorbent, and known for its lasting comfort and strength.

EcoVero™

EcoVero™ is a more sustainable alternative to conventional viscose. Made from certified renewable wood sources and produced following Lenzing’s strict Wood and Pulp Policy, it is processed using a method with lower emissions and water impact. EcoVero™ fabric is soft, breathable, quick-drying, and moisture-wicking—offering the same comfort as regular viscose, but with significantly less environmental cost. It’s also fully biodegradable and compostable, breaking down naturally within months without releasing toxins into the soil.
