We care about our responsibility towards society and the natural environment. Producing goods will always have an impact on the environment, we try to keep this impact minimal.
This is what we do.
GOTS-certified printing with water-based inks

We only use water-based inks to make high-quality prints. Water-based inks have low environmental impact by reducing the ammount of harmful chemicals in screenprinting processes. We don’t need to use chemicals when cleaning screens and the manufacture of the ink uses less by making the inks.
Water-based inks provide great wearability of clothing. The prints are soft and comfortable to wear, especially on finer fabrics the garment retains the soft fabric feel. Washability of the prints is excellent, the prints are highly durable and will last for years.
Our screenprint atelier was the first one in the Netherlands to receive the GOTS-certificate.
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain. All steps in the processing, manufacturing and trading of organic textiles are covered by GOTS. All must be certified to strict ecological and social criteria in order for the product to carry the GOTS label.
Materials
Päälä tees are made from sustainably sourced materials that are resilient, comfortable and soft to the skin. We value a diverse range of sustainable fibres to produce our garments to care about less impact of textile production on the environment. Our T-shirts are made of linen, bamboo, organic cotton, Tencel™, Modal, EcoVero™ and recycled polyester. Our certified fabrics reduce the number of harmful substances used in the growth of the fibers. GOTS also means farmers and producers are treated and paid fairly.
Fair working conditions
It is important to us that the manufacturers we work with provide good working conditions and pay fair wages to their employees. For production, we only work with trusted, certified partners with the same vision on responsibility towards society and environment. We make sure that all manufacturers we work with are highly valued members of the Fair Wear Foundation. Our T-shirts are produced by manufacturers in Portugal and Turkey. Producers we work together with are Continental Clothing, EarthPositive® and Stanly/Stella. Päälä T-shirts are printed in our very own atelier, to make sure we can meet both the social and environmental standards.
