We care about our responsibility toward society and the natural environment. While producing goods always leaves an impact, we aim to keep ours as low as possible.
What we do
GOTS-certified printing with water-based inks
We use only water-based inks to create high-quality prints with a low environmental footprint. These inks reduce the use of harmful chemicals in the screen printing process and require no solvents for cleaning. Water-based inks also keep our garments very comfortable to wear . The prints are soft to the touch and breathable—especially on delicate fabrics, where they allow the material’s natural softness to shine through. They’re also long-lasting: our prints hold up beautifully over time and through many washes.

Our screenprint atelier in Amsterdam was the first in the Netherlands to receive GOTS certification.
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the world’s leading standard for organic fiber processing, combining strict environmental and social criteria. It covers every step of the supply chain—from raw material to finished product—and ensures that all certified parties meet rigorous standards for both people and planet.
Materials
Päälä garments are made from sustainably sourced materials that are resilient, comfortable, and gentle on the skin. We work with a wide range of certified natural fibers to reduce the environmental impact of textile production. These include linen, bamboo, organic cotton, TENCEL™, Modal, EcoVero™. All our certified fabrics help reduce harmful substances used in growing and processing fibers. Our GOTS-certified organic cotton also guarantees that farmers and producers are treated and paid fairly. Learn more about our materials
Fair Working Conditions
We believe sustainability starts with people. That’s why we only work with trusted, certified partners who share our commitment to fair, responsible production. All manufacturers we collaborate with are active members of the Fair Wear Foundation, which promotes safe working conditions and fair wages in the textile industry. Our garments are made by certified producers in Portugal and Turkey, including Continental Clothing, EarthPositive®, and Stanley/Stella. Every Päälä piece is printed by hand in our own Amsterdam atelier, where we can ensure both social and environmental standards are upheld. Learn more about Fair Wear Foundation
